Dominatin the local high school golf scene has iecome an annual hap- pening for Crusader niblickers. ln the six years since the olf team's formation, they have colqected nine trophies. Six of them represent yearly N. K.C. H. S.L.championships, two are Kentucky Post trophies, and the remaining one is a K. C. award. Last year's divot diggers won eleven of their scheduled thirteen matches. The two losses inflicted upon them were at the hands of Pur- cell's Caviliers, and the Highland Blue Birds. Neither of the losses were league decisions. An except- ional team average was established by the '48-'49 play boys as they ended the entire season withacalcu- lated 82.2 blows a round. . This year's folf team has indeed a notable reputation to uphold. Play- ing a heavy schedule, including two tournaments, the Kentucky State tourney at Lexington and theKentucky Post fra? at Devou fields, our laud- able gol ers hopefully fook forward to another successful season.

So run that you may obtain. . . Competitive sports present a'paradox. Victory is the goal being sought But how often have consistent victories played havoc with a winner who overestimates his athletic powers. When he enters the big game, the must game, overconfidence plays its part, and he sees the bubble, reputa- tion, burst before his eyes. Let us consider the lwser. His efforts availed him nought as he fell often, only to rise to another defeat. The record books also disfavor his efforts. With true sportsmanship he accepts the losses and goes on preparing for the next battle. He knows our greatest glory consists not in never falling, but in rising everytime we fall. Crusader teams may not have set the world afire with their victories, they have known the sting of defeat many times, but of them it must be said that in all contests they fought superbly.
