Robert Sullivan, Captain 5 Albert lrato RU ADERS Under the guidance of Mr. John Mahoney, the varsity basketball team compiled a 14-I2 record. A high spirited and aggressive combination, they were always up for the Big Games. lt was their inability to beat the easy teams that kept them from improving their record. Led by Al lrato, with a 14.3 average, Captain Bob Sullivan, with a l3.5 and playmaker George Hughes' 12.6, St. Helena's was always a tough team to beat. x HIGHLIGHTS St. Helena's heats Hayes 45-42. one of the maior upsets of the season. Hayes later went on to take third place in the city playoffs. St. l'lolena's 5'l - Manhattan Prep 46. Rallying from a four point deficit, and led by the deadly iump shooting of Bob Sullivan, St. l'lelena's downed another of the Big Boys. At one point Sullivan hit six straight shots to amass a total of 23 points. St. l'lelena's 60 - St. Ann's 62. Showing great fight and hustle from the opening tap to the final buzzer, St. Helena's came within two points of beating the second best team in the city. Jimmy Frail did a great iob under the boards and also managed to score I6 points. St. HeIena's 43 - St. Francis 53. With lrato leading the way St. I-lelena's gave quite a scare to St. Francis.
