Retaining the true pioneer spirit of St. Helena's, the Helenian Staff virtually started from scratch, building their offices before starting the actual work on the yearbook. For this reason, constructive work on the annual was not begun until the late date of February, 1955. A suite of rooms comprising a thor- oughly equipped darkroom, a yearbook office and an art room, resulting from the labors of Bro. Peter Maurice, joe Henry and Ro- land DiFranco, provided the headquarters of the staff and soon became the site of its accelerated pursuits. Though time was short, the staff did not satisfy themselves with any second-rate prod- uct, and always strove for the best-in pho- tography, art, and literature. The finished product is the fulfillment of a purpose: to give the students of St. Helena's a top- notch yearbook, depicting the events that highlighted the school year of 1952-53. We strove to compile this book in such a way that it might be fine enough to serve as a standard for all future annuals edited by the boys' department. We sincerely hope that you will share in our satisfaction upon completing this first edition which we are submitting for your appraisal.
