SUPERINTENDENTS MESSAGE February ll, 1958 Dear Students and Parents: Education consists essentially in preparing man for what he must be, and for what he must do here below, in order to attain the sublime end for which he was created. Its great function is to make men and women measure up to the stature of Christ. The raw material which the educator molds is man whole and entire, soul united to body in unity of nature, with all his faculties, natural and super-natural -- man, fallen but redeemed. ' The educand is made for heaven, his ultimate goal is God. The child must grow in the use and control of his powers -- physical, intellectual, emotional, and volitional. Parents are primarily responsible for guiding the child in developing his potentialities -- to find his way back to God and to live the way fully. Hopefully and prayerfully, parents ask the school to be co-workers with them.' They do not abdicate their rights, but ask the school for help. The religious teacher, trained in spiritual values through Novitiate years of intensive prayer, meditation, religious formation, and trained in secular knowledge at colleges and universities, stints no effort to pro- duce men and women who are Christ-centered, intelligent, cultured Catholics, healthy in mind and body, social-minded American citizens. Parishoners are to be commended for the sacrifices they have made and are making to erect and maintain a new Junior-Senior High School, placed in the care of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. May God bless the Priests, Sisters, Teachers, Parents, Parishoners, and Children. Working in peace and unity, we shall accomplish great things for the glory of God and the salvation of souls.
