The drill group, directed by Miss Lanell Rowell, consists of thirty-five members. Eleven members of this group belong to National Baton Twirlers Association, the oldest and largest twirling organization in the world. Each week the girls meet for one two-hour session where pre- cision dancing and marching, ballet exercises, and baton twirling is taught in an organized manner. The aim of this group is to bring recognition to the school by the group participating in parades and civic groups, to cultivate friendship among the students, to develop gracefulness and poise in each individual and, 'most important of all, to further the art of baton twirling. Miss Rowell is the former Twirler and Head Drum Major for the Famous APACHE BELLES of Tyler, Texas. Below are girls getting ready for tournament to be held at Winona, March 28th. if 'Q' Xt J 1

Mrs. Judy LeBlanc is coach of the girls' athletic activities. Basketball practice began in October. Two games were played, both against Winona. We lost the games but a new basketball team for St. Gregory's girls was in the making. The A string was made up of Kathleen Peterschmidt, Millie Long, Kathleen Corcoran, Carol George, Joyce George and Frances Carswell. Substitutes were Carol Bieber, Mary Bouvy, Dardine Roedel, Helen K. Hesse, Sharon Bosworth and Mary A. Matachinskas. Volleyball practice began in February and the tournament will be held the latter part of March. Soft ball has been a well played sport at S. G. S, for the past three years. With past experience, it is expected that the girls will be formidable opposition for other teams.
