Rev. John Przydacz Chaplain to Sisters ,, ,, IMMACULAT E C ONCEPTION CHURCH Pioneer priest, Rev. J,S. Chaland, erected the first Catholic Church in Tyler in 1878. The present church was dedicated in 1934 by Rev. S.A. Samperi. 'In 1949 the church was renovated and redecorated, and in 1950 it was air-conditioned. The social room and kitchen in the basement of the church was remodeled in 1957 under the supervision of Msgr. E.V. McCullough. ST. GREGORY SCHOOL Bishop Lynch commissioned Rev. V. J. Wolf to formulate plans for a parochial school. The cornerstone was laid June 20, 1946. The school is named in memory of .Tustin Gregory Glasco who died in 1943. His father was a great benefactor to the school. Rev. Paul Higginbotham Teacher of Religion ST. GREGORY CONVENT T he old convent adjoining the school was inadequate, and so Rev. V. J. Wolf set plans for a new sixteen-room air-conditioned convent. The Colonial Style of the convent is the same as that of the adjacent school with an 'arched arcade connecting school, audi- torium, and convent. His Excellency, Bishop Thomas K. Gorman, dedicated the con- vent of the School Sisters of Notre Dame in January 1953. In the peaceful atmosphere of the convent chapel, in the glow of the sanctuary lamp of the King'of Kings, the School Sisters of Notre Dame find their strength to lead forward the Army of Youth entrusted to their care. In the chapel are Sisters Marie Theodore, Monica Marie, Mary Marca, Mary Clared, Mary Ursula, and Mary Lorita, principal of St. Gregory's School.
