ST GR R HGH SCHOO S A 'T One hundred years ago Pope Plus IX declared the Immaculate Concep tlon ofthe B 1 e 5 s e d Vxrgm Mary a D o g rn a of Faxth On tne one hun t1on of thls Dogma we the Students of St Ge rard I-hgh School ln the Marlan Year, dedlcate to Mary Immaculate our annual the Majellan of 1954 GCIICGIIGH dredth anniversary of the proclama- . . , . X x M M ,iv KWH A M xx s 5 Z i iw--.-wii'i 3k -7-Mu--mm, 'Guam-wsxqw PRAYER FOR THE MARIAN YEAR by His Holiness Pope Pius XII Enraptured by the s pl e n d o r of your heavenly beauty, and impelled by the anxieties of the world, we cast ourselves into your arms, O Imma- culate Mother of Jesus and our Moth- er, Mary, confident of finding in your most loving heart appeasement of our ardent de s i r e s, and a safe harbor from the t e rn p e s t s which beset us on every side. Though degraded by our fa ul t s and overwhelmed by infinite misery, we admire and praise the peerless richness of sublime gifts with which God has filled you, above every other mere creature, from the first mo- ment ofyour Conc eption until the day on which, after your Assump- tion into heaven, He crowned you Queen of the Universe. O crystal Fountain of faith, bathe our minds with the eternal truths! O fragrant Lily of all holiness, capti- vate our hearts with your heavenly perfume! O Conqueress of evil and death, inspire in us a deep horror of sin which makes the soul detestable to God and a slave of hell. ..- O well --beloved of God, hear the ardent cry which rises up from every heart in this year dedicated to you. Bend tenderly over our aching wounds. Convert the w i c ke d, dry the tears of the afflicted and oppres- sed, comfort the poor and humble, quench hatreds, sweeten harshness, safeguard the fl o we r of purity in youth, protect the holy Church, make all men feel the attraction of Chris- tian goodness. In your name, re- sounding harmoniously in h e av e n, may they recognize that they are all brothers, and that the nations are members of one family, upon which may there shine forth the sun ofa universal and sincere peace. Receive, O Most Sweet Mother, our humble supplications, and above all obtain for us that, one day, happy with you, we may repeat before your throne that hymn which todayis sung on earth around your altars: You are all beautiful, O Mary! You are the glory, you are the joy, you are the honor of our people! Amen. 5 MM' E Ccfftug 'fm wr? 'E?ESS:fe 1,l'4'w,, I J xl ,ff A' f xi Z' S A- '14 w -SRX k QS X :Sir XE sd ,F XQ1 W! You may not realize it now but the day will come when you will recognize that the training received at St. Gerard's is the only type of educa- tion worthwhile. You have been given the tools with which to carve out for yourselves the good life here and eternal life hereafter. You owe it to your families and to yourselves to reflect honor on your school through all the years to come. Sincerely yours in Christ, + . Most Rev. Robert E. ucey, .T.D. Archbishop of San Antonio MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR Dear Graduates: K You have just completed four important years of your life. Very likely you will never again have four years like these, because while you were spending these four years you were growing up rapidly. From month to month, week to week, things seemed to change in you and around you, These were important years because they were years in which your character, personality, and your spiritual life were being formed. The impressions made on your character by these four years will leave their mark. You were blessed in being able to attend a Catholic High School during these years. You were entrusted to the Redemptorist Fathers and the School Sisters of Notre Dame and we sincerely hope and pray that you are prepared for life because of this association. We were happy to have you. Since your parents entrusted you to us we felt obligedto give you the very best in education and thus help your parents in the work of your character formation. lt is common knowledge that most High School Graduates are glad to get out of school ------ considering school a necessary evil--so no doubt you feel the same way. But we hope that later you will look back with some little regret because you are no longer in St. Gerard High School and that you miss some of the happy days spent here. I have one thought uppermost in my mind and one bit of advice:--Be true and loyal to your God in the Blessed Sacrament--Love and Serve Him--Continue your devotion to Our Mother o f Perpetual Help which you learned in school, and I feel confident that your life will be happy as well as successful. God bless you each one wherever you go in life. KSignedj Alvin O. Billimek, C. Ss, R.
