One of the cultural projects, as the months commenced their march of activities at St. Ge- rard's, was the introduction of Student Concerts to be provided by the St. Gerard High School Band. The Band, reorganized this year by Sister Mary Clement, has celebrated a most success- ful beginning. Pictured at left is the Band during the rend- ition of Agnus Dei by Bizet. Mr. Stan Psenick, the Band's enthusiastic Director, is at the di- rector's stand. This was the Band's first for- mal appearance of the year. 1, N., Y, OCTOBER 7--LIVING WORLD PEACE ROSARY Ten girl Sodalists of SGH were guests at the Living World Peace Rosary said on the campus of Incarnate Word College. OCTOBER Z1-CORPUS CHRISTI GAME The Corpus Christi game, played here, was the first afternoon game of the year. Although the St. Gerard eleven burnedholes into the gridiron, as can be seen from a candid shot of the game pictured at lower left, St. Gerard's chalked up another defeat. Score: 14-6. OCTOBER Z6--I-lALI..OWE'EN HOP To raise funds for the Junior-Senior Prom, a big day in any life, the '5Z Juniors invited the students and their friends to join the witches, black cats, and goblins in a Hop for Hallowe'en. Pictured at lower right is a scene from the Hop , with the dancers in action . OCTOBER 31 - -RING DAY Ring Day, a date long awaited and long to be remembered, arrived early at St. Cverard's. The little golden circlets were blessed by Father Schmitt in an informal ceremony. Father's address to the Seniors re- minded them that their class rings were a symbol of honor to themselves and a reflection to their school. Pictured above, center, is one staff mernber's concept of this symbolization. ushered in the MARCH or FAITH to Honor christ the King Of all the celebrated customs and legends that abound in the city of San Antonio, the most unique is that of the annual March of Faith on the feast of Christ the King. This March consists of large dele- gations from every parish who parade in solemn procession before the Blessed Sacrament through the streets of San Antonio to the tune of Our I..ady's Ro- sary interspersed with sacred hymns. This March is truly a tribute, not only to the Real Presence of Jesus Christ among us, but also the living Faith and ardent devotion of San Antonians everywhere. This year, St. Gerard's was hon- ored by having its pastor, the very Reverend Raymond Schmitt, selected as speaker for this occasion. Father's address, scholarly in its delivery, brought new glory ,sul to St. Gerard High School. The ad- dress pivoted around a personal ex- amination of the individual's faith. Father placed the unthinking Catholic, the ignorant Catholic, and the indif- ferent Cathclic as the most devasting and destructive force of the Catholic Church in any age. He commended the demonstration of those present to so let their faith shine, that it might lead them to the mountain of love Where they can enjoy God's presence through the eternal years . Pictured at top is the moment of Solemn Benediction, The Celebrant is his Excellency, Robert E. Lucey, the most Reverend Archbishop of San An- tonio. At center is the very Reverend Raymond Schmitt, speaker of the day. At bottom is a section ofSt. Gerard School delegation. The scri,,t, dedicated to the very Reverend Raymond Schmitt, CSsR, was an original composition which por- trayed in five dramatic scenes the life of St. Raymondof Pennafort. The T and the V are composed of moments that mat- tered to the cast and crew before, after, and during pre- sentation. At bottom right of T is Mr. Duncan, Pro- gram Manager of WOAI-TV, who came to St. Gerard High to check production. Said Mr. Duncan: I am amazed. The rehearsal surpassed fondest expectations. Frankly, I didn't think that high school students could do the show'. On the TV screen, up right, is the man who made St. Gerard's two television shows a reality. Brother Aloysius Blume,SM, head of the Department of Speech and Drarnatics at St. Mary's University, gave SGH the invitations to par- ticipate in his bi-weekly VESPERS programs. Brother's encouragement and appreciation are evidenced in a letter he sent after production of the show. Congratulations on a supe rbly done program .... It was undoubtedly the most difficult and yet, one of the best programs we have had to date .... Mr. Duncan assured me thatWOAI-TV will always be happy to have St. Gerard's back again ....
