JVorth of these mountains lay dry, barren deserts which were a mystery to those who inhabited the land. West of these mounds lay a huge body of mysterious water known as the ocean, where brave men and women sailed in search of new lands and a new way of life. Zo the south lay a cool, serene area that was set aside for more peaceful eras. Zhe kingdom was known as Ranter re. The Mass was concelebrated by Father Frank Doherty and Father Dave Heney. The highlight of the Mass was the traditional blessing of the symbols representing the ex- tra-curricular activities. Several students par- ticipated in the Mass by doing the readings and singing hymns. The Mass closed with the singing of the Alma Mater. 20 ' OV.:3??; ?2BR .v Wi f 1 • . ■■Si W ■V H 1 1fclr ; ' ' - ' J nWr ft • I. Father Frank giving one of his inspir- ing sermons. 2. Among the activities in preparation for Homecoming were the football games which were won by the junior boys and the volleyball games which were won by senior girls. Pep week also included the College Bowl won by the Seniors. Pep Day was the last day of Pep Week. Students from all class levels participated in skits, mummy role, the pie-eating con- test, and the obstacle race. Everyone joined at the end of the day for a pep rally, where the Mr. and Mrs. Silver and Blue contest was judged with Seniors as the Winner. Pep week was quite successful in rais- ing the spirit of the students, readying them for the Homecoming game against Alemany. 4p ■■♦ f t T ♦ f i v • ' •- •:• ■iV.; ?■...-; _ ' _! £±L . The club was open to all students. It involved itself with many organizations such as the Catholic Workers on Skid Row and M.E.N.D. in Pacoima-, thus the club had the chance to work in a soup kitchen and in a playground in the downtown area. The members also collected and helped deliver food baskets to the poor locally and on Skid Row. This year the club also involved itself with La Gloria Orphanage in Tijuana. Over the past few years, the Unity Club ' s work has become known to the community. In fact, needy families in our local area this year called the club itself for assistance. But finally, when tears stream out, (For every man must cry, no doubt) My tears do not just rain but pour As if they ' ve passed an open door A door which has been locked and sealed, Has kept my feelings well concealed Sometimes I try to learn the cause, I search for habits, rules, or laws Which might reveal the reason why I do, at rare times, start to cry. II S f 4f f 251    ttt ttttt I Sd iters Page . . . r r JVanterrian 1982 is a reflection of us as a whole. Our artistic, photographic , writing and leadership skills finally came together within these pages. We worked hard, and we gave it our all. As we graduate and leave, the only trace of our existence left behind is our yearbook: Moments captured in time. People we thank: Jr. 3 rank, the faculty, and the administration, for their patience and cooperation. Our Hosten ' s American yearbook Representative, Robert Hap Zavack, for giving us the initial motivation and direction. Ml Christy- for his professional photographic work. Sr. Angela Clare- for editing and proofreading all of our copy. Zhe Staff- who under the constant direction of our editors, Aileen and Jackie, worked to the very end to produce layouts of quality. Our Photographers- Javier, Doug, and especially Bill, our Photography Editor, who gave so much of their extra time, talent, and themselves to make the yearbook more than just words. Our Artists- M rendu, who interpreted our ideas into the cover; Jackie, who designed the division pages ; Zony and Zherese, who helped with the autograph pages. Our contributing sources, chiefly our sponsors, advertisers, and parents. And, of course, our advisor, Mrs. Nancy Patten, who gave time, inspiration and effort, while allowing us to compose a yearbook containing our own ideas and individuality. In this, our world, we have to cope And learn to never give up hope. We persevere, just like the tide. Our feelings, we soon learn to hide. But one day soon, just like the wave, We ' ll have to venture from our cave. While wandering throughout our life. If it be with, or without strife, May we find joy in all we do And share that joy our whole life through! Pictures In The Dark Glancing at old pictures, I remember how great it once was. We brightened each other ' s dull lives And set goals as unreachable as the stars. But time passed, And the pictures are dull and faded now. I know you are no longer here. My days are filled with grief and solitude. All that is left is the memory of you, And how great it once was. -Cynthia Bishop, ' 82 Seabiscuit When I was small I was a horse (but only in my head, of course). With nothing left, I must again begin. It ' s hard to start to build my dreams then find That I am left, and they have blown away. Today I wish that fate would be more kind And pin my dreams on me to make them stay. Although I know that life keeps passing by And dreams are not too hard to build again, I hope and pray this time my dreams won ' t fly. . . Or I ' ll be back again to where I ' ve been. So now that I have had my cry, I ' ll cease And start to build my dreams once more in peace. -Diana Nickels, ' 82 Rockey Cruz Kari Jonak Pressure The man stood at the free-throw line, The score was tied at forty-nine.
