0 CCl,l'l'll0lfl,5 Class presidents Marty Zamlock, Juanita Aguilera, Janet Nazarro and Cecilia Doty enjoy the college at- mosphere between seminars at the Student Govern- ment Day, held at Redlands University on October 7. Leadership-its advantages and disadvantages, char- acteristics and responsibilities-was the general theme of the day, the purpose was to aid student leaders from secondary schools throughout southern Califor- nia. Others who attended from St. Francis were the four student body officers. Junior members of the Maritas staff, Juanita Aguilera, Linda Tyson, Becky Ramirez, Mary Devine and Judy Bridges Cnot picturedj examine model year- book pages during a lull between sessions at the Yearbook Workshop hosted by Redlands University in November. The day gave participating students the opportunity to receive valuable tips on yearbook copy, layout, photography, design and planning. On December 1, for the second time in Riverside's history, a Youth in Government Day was sponsored by the Riverside Junior Chamber of Commerce. The purpose of the day was to give youth an insight into the organization and activities of city government, a practical application of the fundamental workings of democracy through actual experience, to increase the student's interest. awareness and knowledge of civic affairs and governmental processes, To prepare for the day, the student counterparts of the city officials studied the Charter of the City of Riverside. Because of their small number of seniors, St. Francis has only one participating student, Shirley Ogonowski, who was Councilwoman Nancy O'Neill's counterpart for the day. One of the employees of Riverside Bell Telephone Company explains the intricacies of telephone me- chanics to the physical science students.
