when the students told us what they Wi: ' ' I l am proud to be a Knight because of the Christian leadership at St. Francis. I am proud to be a Knight because, although St. Francis may not be the best at everything it does, we still do it with pride. lt takes a special kind of person to be a t Knight. That's what makes us different, but i, that's what makes us better. There is always a hand out to help and a shoulder to lean on. I am proud to be a Knight because of the high academic and athletic standards of the school and its reputation among other schools as well. St. Francis is tops In everything, curricular as well as extracurricular. The teachers and classes are interesting. I strive for the best things. Here I am. We Knights, with an impenetrable armor of pride, stand together till the end. So there are many reasons. You've now read a few. You'll see others in the rest of this book. You'll probably come to the conclusion we did: Every Knight's proud and every Knight has his reasons why. And now to explain the plan of the book. We listened expected to find in their book. The theme of the Accolade for 1975 is The Proud Knight. This theme is carried throughout the book by the art design from the front cover. The art is very simple: lt's just the head of a knight enclosed in a circle - a contemporary design But there's something special about it. Notice the tilt of the head, the stance. They signify pride. This theme and this design were chosen because the editors felt these were the best ways to get the point across the Knight of St. Francis de Sales High School has many reasons to be proud. Now, the reader may wonder, What makes the Knight proud? We wondered too. So we asked the Knights themselves. Here's what some of them said: I am proud to be a part of this untarnished tradition of the Knights. I am proud to be a Knight for to be a Knight you have to reason, and to reason is why we are what we are.

Don't judge us too harshly. Remember, we were only students, high school students, a bunch of amateurs trying to act like pros and learning as much as we could about history writing, journalism, graphic design, and photography. We tried. 1' j. K . 4' People should not be forgotten. Mrs. Dorothy Roberts, a school secretary for about twenty years, retired in February. She was part of the original crew that helped to establish St. Francis de Sales High School. She was always around when somebody needed help. From morning to night, she was always doing her job and more. Her concern about this school and its students is something that will always be appreciated. Well, we appreciate her too, Here's proof: we dedicate Accolade 1975 to Mrs. Dorothy Roberts. , I 9 0 e ' Q U Culture is hard to define.
