Languages Develop Cultural, Linguistic Appreciation The room which houses the study of foreign language is a mental gymnasium. lt is herewhere students flex the muscles of their minds to master a second language. The barbells of this gymnasium range from declensions to conjugations. Just as physical dexterity is achieved in gym so is mental acuity achieved in language class by finding exactly the right idiom to express one's view clearly. Though the benefits of gym class may give way to beer bellies of the future, the benefits of a foreign language will live on in the student indefinitely. 28 Fr. Sottek: Latin ll. Fr. Advanced Courses Gffer Greater t ,F Challenge to Students A day in the life ofa student who takes advanced courses can't be all that bad. ln first period calculus, exciting -derivatives and integrals, along with Fr. Finn's humorous quips make the hour speed right by. Frequent heated discussions iabout anythingi make the participants in Mr. Gavin's English class lose all track of time. During the last periods, the chemists and biologists converge on the basement. Fathers Landgraff and Ebenhoeh have devised ingenious experiments, which there never seems to be enough time to complete. These advance placement courses besides causing the day to scurry by more importantly prepare students for their upcoming role as a college student. i Z if i mf-Eiga ' AI, 4 .- ..f f- - .-fu,-rf ,. r' - ' Mr. Gavin: English I, Advanced English .
