lVlath: A Function of Anaylsis and Logic l One thing all students at St. Francis have in common is math. No matter whether you are a freshman or a senior, your plight is the same. Everyday as you walk into math class, you find yourself deluged by undecipherable equations and formulae. Class after class, the pieces seem to fit together and by test time a semi-coherent idea of the material exists in your mind. Before you even get a chance to wonder whether you passed or failed, the next class presents an even more complicated problem in the next chapter. While students continue to ask questions and teachers continue to reach into their vast mental stores for the answers, math remains the same, difficult. S.F.S. students learn to value the written word in literature through the efforts of well-developed English department. Teachers strive to instill in their students an appreciation of their literary heritage, an awareness of the modern uses of our language and a firm foundation in literary values. Not only does the student learn to value the well- written word but he also realizes that good grammar is essential to the expression of ideas and statements. Application of specialized techniques is attempted in the studs-nt's own creative writings, while research into great plays and their unique authors opens yet another phase of the English program.
