CHARITY KID Mother Mary Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, stressed the virtue of charity as the first requisite for a religious teacher. She urged her Sisters to study the noble description of charity as given by Saint Paul. Charity is patient, it is kind, she insisted, as he did. But Mother McAuley expanded his definition to meet situa- tions encountered by teachers. Receive the un- grateful again and again, she instructed, and never weary pardoning them. The foundress desired her Sisters to be constant in their bestowal of charity. Let us show love without remissness, she encouraged.
