It is one of the picturesque and historical cities of New England, where some of the oldest residences housed French troops during the Revoluf tion. Our State House, located on Smith Hill, has the second largest marhle dome in the world, and is considered one of the most beautiful in the country. Providence, however, is chiefly an industrial city. being the center of jewelry manufacturing. During the recent hurrif cane, the industrial and husiness districts suffered great losses hecause of their precarious location. Numerous educational facilities include a new public library.
