SENIOR H CLHSS PEHCE TO HUMQN SCDCIETY . The inevitable tension between the love of selfish pleasures and the desire for spir- itual peace has always produced much pere plexity in the soul of man. The modern materialistic age seems of the opinion that the only way to attain any condition of hapf piness is to ignore the spiritual, and bend over backwards in an effort to satisfy the insatiable appetites of the body, This phi- losophy of life does not bring about any real happiness but only a transient joy and then succeeds in leaving anxieties and conf flicts which tear at men's minds and even- tually at their bodies, Because of this moral laxity, our Lady has frequently ape peared in an effort to deter men from their headlong rush to ruin.
