SENIOR H CLHSS PEHCE TO HUMQN SCDCIETY . The inevitable tension between the love of selfish pleasures and the desire for spir- itual peace has always produced much pere plexity in the soul of man. The modern materialistic age seems of the opinion that the only way to attain any condition of hapf piness is to ignore the spiritual, and bend over backwards in an effort to satisfy the insatiable appetites of the body, This phi- losophy of life does not bring about any real happiness but only a transient joy and then succeeds in leaving anxieties and conf flicts which tear at men's minds and even- tually at their bodies, Because of this moral laxity, our Lady has frequently ape peared in an effort to deter men from their headlong rush to ruin. On Iune l3, l9l7 she appeared to three little Portuguese chile dren while the rest of the world was busy at wart She pleaded with these humble children at Fatima to do penance for the sins of the world and it was to them, that the Mother of God made startling promises and uttered prophecies of things to come, Qur Lady of Fatima declared that unless men returned to Gcd and gave up their sine ful lives another World War would follow, worse than the first. So it is very evident that there is really only one road to peace and contentment it is the same one that leads to God, But this road is not always an easy one, sometimes its lonely, sometimes its sad, sometimes long and weary but, whatever the difficulties, when we reach our goal all our sacrifices and trials suddenly seem worthwhile for it is then that Christ will smile ingly lean from His throne and say benianly: All which I look frimi fluff' I did but take?
