heme We have endeavored, in this our yearbook, to show that even in this dark and dreary postwar world of inflation, mercenary interests and atheism, there can be a ray of light to illumine the despairing world. This is the light of the Catholic faith, of Christ's teachings and His graces, of His increasing love for us. As Catho- lic young women, stepping from familiar security into turmoil and destruction, we must contribute our efforts to the task of making the world God-conscious. After the excellent training which we have received for four years we are prepared to step forward to take our rightful places in a confused society. Whether destined for further education or for the business world we will lind use for these teachings. Not only have we been instructed in literature, science, mathematics, history and other subjects essential to an academic training, but we have also learned the secrets of success-Christian love, humil- ity, trust in God, and hope in His wishes to guide us to salvation. We have been taught Catholic ideals which will be the principles of our lives. VVe have been taught love of neighbor and the essen- tials of justice. As we have absorbed this knowledge we have become discerning as to the persons with whom we associate and the places which we visit. All these teachings we will take with us as we venture without and they will be as candles to light the way along a dark road. These candles will never die out but will live until the end of time. Violent winds-atheism, heresy, persecution-will attempt to blow them out but, as in the past, they will fail. VVith our Alma Mater as our guiding light and our inspiration and with Christ as the Light of the XVorld to watch over us, we will advance with our candles, watching them llare up and enkindle the heart of mankind. -PA'rR1c1A DUFFY SJR. n Cue

Cghe gterncil oaght By MARY Dumas I searched among the glowing stones Of earthly hopes and joysg But 'neath the surface of these gems Were valueless alloys. I touched the flaming stone of power Wanting none-yet all I dared to sip were dregs of pride, And found its taste of gall. Where was the jewel, pure and rare, Of Everlasting Love?
