My dear girls, Your patron, St. Francis of Assisi, furnishes one of the clearest examples of what happens to those who seek first the kingdom of God. After a youth of selfishness and unhappiness Cvery much like our youth, I am afraidb he suddenly began to seek the kingdom of God in all things. Of course he found it in all things, and with it the happiness that the great King gives to those who find His kingdom. ' Another St. Francis wrote a whole book about how easy it is for people in the world to seek first the kingdom of God. In his Introduction to a De1foutLife, St. Francis de Sales has taught us two great truths. The first, how much happiness is found by those who devote their entire lives to Almighty God, the second, how this can be done without leaving the world-how sweet and easy it is for husbands and wives, doctors, lawyers, students to live lives of which every moment is devoted to their King. You are learning how to do this at St. Francis Convent. If you do not learn this, then all else that you learn will be in vain. And so my wish for you this year is this, that with the help of the Sisters who bear his name and to whom you have dedicated the Troubadour each of you learn to seek first God's kingdom, so that all things else necessary for your happiness may be yours.
