aduanced nursing med-Surg IV Med-Surg IV presents the senior student with a comprehensive view of all the things he or she has learned, both theoretical and clini- cal. Many disease entities, particularly the more life-threatening ones, are review- ed. Nursing care plans are an important part of this rotation and the senior can draw on all previous experiences. Through team leading the student learns to apply her knowledge to managing the clinical area with other members of the hospital personnel. All Med-Surg IV Students engaged in some type of community nurs ing, as tutoring, fixing toys for tots , and taking Red Cross teaching courses. This is the time when students rotate through the emergency room, medical and surgical intensive care units and assume the role of assist charge. A new experience for the student nurse who has previously cared for patients on a one- to-one floor nursing situation, Med-Surg IV prepares the senior for varied roles as a professional nurse after graduation. Mary, BELOW, receives her card for Red Cross home teac ing from the Wichita area Red Cross Volunteer. Classroom Work, as the instructors point out, is important to prepare for team leading and effective floor management. h-

Team leading is serious. There are reports to be given, team conferences to prepare and lead, nursing care plans and patient teaching to be scheduled. You may Wonder ii you'll make as good a nurse as you thought you Would! Emergency room nursing gives the student a new picture of the patient: the patient who is confused, panic-stricken, surprised and suddenly faced with a new environment. Patients vary from major to minor ailments. You also become proficient at giving tetanus toxoidl
