Reporting off on 4 South 015 mg? pediatric nursing Pediatrics, another senior rotation, scales down medical-surgical nursing to fit the young- er generation, ages ranging from infants to sixteen year olds. Normal growth and develop- ment as well as deviations and their causes are studied. Classtime and pop tests keep the sen- iors on their toes. Clinical Work, a big part of Peds, involves care of the ill child, lots of holding, cuddling, playing and entertaining. You would never think seniors could remember so many children's games and nursery rhymes. A high point of the Week is Thursday, 9:00 A. M. in the playroom. Not for play but for rounds with Dr. Sullivan. This certainly offers a timely and unique learning experience. The seniors who thought Pharmacology was all over are in for a big surprise. aduanced nursing med-Surg IV Med-Surg IV presents the senior student with a comprehensive view of all the things he or she has learned, both theoretical and clini- cal. Many disease entities, particularly the more life-threatening ones, are review- ed. Nursing care plans are an important part of this rotation and the senior can draw on all previous experiences. Through team leading the student learns to apply her knowledge to managing the clinical area with other members of the hospital personnel. All Med-Surg IV Students engaged in some type of community nurs ing, as tutoring, fixing toys for tots , and taking Red Cross teaching courses. This is the time when students rotate through the emergency room, medical and surgical intensive care units and assume the role of assist charge. A new experience for the student nurse who has previously cared for patients on a one- to-one floor nursing situation, Med-Surg IV prepares the senior for varied roles as a professional nurse after graduation. Mary, BELOW, receives her card for Red Cross home teac ing from the Wichita area Red Cross Volunteer. Classroom Work, as the instructors point out, is important to prepare for team leading and effective floor management. h-
