Knowing how to prepare and give medications to pa- tients is a must. Along with this the students must learn the action and the side effects of the drugs. It's not an easy task at all!

fundamentals of nursing During the first ten Weeks of nursing all the students go through Fundamentals of Nursing. The focal point in Fundamentals is based on the three principles that guide nursing actiong namely, maintaining the individuality of man, maintaining physio- logical functioning, and maintaining a safe environment. Matters concerned with nursing are dealt with during this first ten weeks. These include the status of current health prob- lems, nursing's place in the health field, and techniques related to practice as problem solving, teaching, and communi- cating. The students also study the basic needs of man as hygiene, nutrition, rest, fluid and electrolyte balance, elimination and oth- ers. Also included are common problems of illness such as pain, Vomiting, and im- paired elimination from the gastrointesti- nal tract or genitourinary tracts. Ma.ny hours are spent working on the clinical area taking care of patients, in- cluding the terminally ill patient. Indeed, there was much to learn and many experiences in Fundamentals of Nursing. nursing . med-Surg I In this rotation the students study various conditions involving the nervous system and conditions of the eye and ear. They spent one morning at the eye or ear clinic Where they observed examinations made by the doctor. They also made visits to homes of spastic and retarded children. The kids en- joyed having us come. One week was spent working in the dressing cart room. The students went with one of the nurses working in this area. They were taught how to clean and dress various types of wounds. Linda Mansker visits with patient involved in auto accident. Student helps nurse set up dressings for a patient
