Social Studies The weekly shipments of topical maga- zines that cluttered many a classroom gave evidence of the History Department's emphasis upon current events this year. Analyses of our own time of crisis were coupled, of course, with the usual prohings into the past. The four year curriculum included a review of ancient Bahylon, Creek and Roman civilizations, a consideration of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Reformation, and the significant events of modern history. Following this over-all view of world events, students turned to the study of American life and its institu- tions in coordination with contemporary affairs. Discussions and written assign- ments hasecl principally on articles in U. S. News and W'orIcl Report were the chief means for achieving this coordination. Brother Theodore, the Department Head, further supplemented work in social studies hy organizing a History Club, and hy sponsoring several field trips in- cluding thosc to thc United Nations, the Metropolitan Museum, and the extended tour of the Nation,s Capitol at Washington, D.C. Department Head, Brother Theodore, lectures on Pan-American affairs. 26
