It is the closest thing to a Hschool team we have here at the seminary, which is, of scholastic necessity, intramural in nature. The Varsity manages to break this mold somewhat, for it does go beyond the mura to challenge the various classes of the Major Seminary. Fol- lowing themfaithfully and obstreperously is as wild a bunch of teen-agers as you will meet in any gymnasium. They keep a sharp eye upon the athletes, the referees, and the scoreboard. This year tradition was disturbed a bit, and the walls were moved out- ward a bit. This year the Varsity locked horns with some other seminaries, and the experience tended to destroy both complacency and a parochial men- tality. Some of these other boys are good too. Invited here, as we were there, were the teams from St. Lawrence Sem- inary Of St. Lawrence, Wisconsin; The Divine Word seminarians of Holy Ghost Seminary at East Troy, Wisconsin; and the Maryknollers from Glen Ellyn, Illinois. As for our team, it did well. There were seven victories against five de- feats. This is not bad for a start; but things will be better next year. Just ask Father Becker, the coach. And who knows? Perhaps the man with the highest score of the year, Mike Sorgi, will be on the floor to improve his record eighteen points per game. ntcr-
