Cbrz'ytmm Week There is a warmncss about Christmas that we cant get out, even if we com are it to Easter. Here is proof 0 Godls love; here is God a man. These meditations renew them- selves each year. The liturgy of Ad- vent insists them nobly with the words of the Mass and the ofhee. Bit by bit the excitement mounts, until the words He's near, Hcls near, become uHels born. Added to the help of the liturgy here at the seminary is the practice of the Christmas novena and the use of the Advent wreath. Near the end of Advent a crib is blessed, a tree is set up, and all wait for Christmas. Oh sure, for vacation. But really, deeply, for all the graces of Christmas.

retreat One of the most important activities of the year, at the seminary especially, is the annual retreat, this year held January 4 through the 9th. This is not a time for mere dusting off; it is the time when great decisions are made, when new directions and strong habits are indicated, when God's graces play fruitfully about the souls of young men. This year the retreat master was a diocesan priest, Fatherjohn Francis Brown, pastor of a Negro parish in Chicago. He had all the qualities needed for his good work: he was forceful, interesting, Wise. All reports tell us that Father Brown did excellent work, but those who know him are not surprised. Saint Francis was for- tunate in its 1959 retreat. NOWe-to make permanent those resolutions! 0 Page 68 to We iessxov.
