But if yOu want to see sur- prise and incredibility register on a human face, tell some librarian that the staff of the minor department at Saint Francis Seminary managed, somehow, within five years, to totally catalogue more than twclvc-thousand books: author, title, and important cross-rcferences. They said it couldn't be done . But it was done here at St. Francis. Behind all this efhciency is Fatherjoseph Strenski, who performed two wonv ders: he managed to Create the necessary enthusiasm for library work; and he followed the old Roman advice to a would-be master: HDivide and rule. Now there is enthusiasm about the library. Now students linger there in their free hours, paging over new volumes attractively displayed. Now the adolescents crowd around the Hi-Fi to listen to the classical and semi-clas- sical music and learn a new appreciation of music. Supervising all activities x'igilantly is head student-librarian, Steve Umhoefer, and library board. There is something distasteful about comparisons, especially when they make you look badt But any comparison of a school library with ours at St. Francis will give us nOthing to fear. It's hard to hear, if it can be beaten. Good work, librarians. Try to remain humble.

Hi-fi brings all types of music, well performed under circumstances to our cars. It lacks, however, the personal touch of having real live performance present. At community programs it's much more satisfactory to have live players than an impersonal recording providing music. Our band fills this need plus providing any interested stu- dent an opportunity to enrich and broaden his life by personally per- forming music alone and with others. Any student may learn an instrument free of charge at St. Francis, by joining the Junior band. When sufficient skill has been acquired he can become a mem- ber of the Senior Band, which this year has about forty members. Even the band director enjoys the party. Back row: S. Umhoefer, W.
