The work of the Via men at St. Francis is of such a nature. Today's students, tomorrow's priests, will keep their Via. They will open it to such and such a page, reflect on the delightful past, and make comparisoneodi- ous or gracious-with any num- ber of future days. A school an- nual just is not ephemeral. That's why its work is important. This year, under the direction of EditorsJim Wood, the board of editors has sifted activities to learn what is worth preserving. It has sent the curious snout of the HGraflex into corners to un- cover history. It has selected and cut and ferspired and succeeded. Indee it has succeeded. This book in your hands is the evi- dence. Page 52 o -. t tacky; 131v WM '3. James Wood. .Editonin-chief Business Manager Asst. Photographer Typist Raymond Kertz .Asst. Editor Layout Editor Asst. The dent that photographic heptarchy might make on a school year is not generally significant. But this is not the case when one considers the work of the school annual. What these lads do is make his- tory. Not the kind of history that is lost in the covers of books un- opened after graduation but the kind of history that grows with the years, that ceases to pale in importance. It seems more fra- grant and interesting each time ac- quaintance is renewed. Daniel Krejci. . . . . . . .Layout Michael Kenney ..... Copy Editor James Bruch ......... x-l I think we'll use 8 point GARAMONT. Penman editor interviewing Father Greene. WWW Standing: E. Dupont, W. Fredelake, R. Stommel, A. Gaudynski, W. Kohler, j. David, R. Jeziorski, M. Sorgi, R. Taylor, M. Josten. Seated: M. Chlebowski, J, Wiza, E. Cook. Checking the fllcs. Father Leo Seramur Faculty Advisor Sure I want to see pictures in the school papet-mine. Sure I want names in theretmine. The labor of the Penman staff is herculean; these students must wedge into their free-time all the hours that are required to produce a paper that will please four-hundred news-hungry hounds who want news that is appropriate to their own tastes, their own class, their own persons. No one envies the Penman its task. The wonder is that these gentlemen succeed so well and so consistently. Father Leo Seramur has hours of proofreading and hours of meeting in order to assure himself that the pa er will be representative. The editors must pen and erase and eer. The worl: gets done, though. And the Penman is deliv- ered on schedu e. Not without blood, sweat, toil, and tears, but not without l gloryt These pcnmen do themselves grand. Page 54
