You were forgotten here, you felt; here, where you worked so remarkably for so many years. 'iA priest is a man devoured, the French say. You were devoured here at this depart. ment, your many years totally occupied seven days a week, your patience tried so constantly. your health nibbled away by the demands of your duties. But. you see, you haven't been forgotten. Much of you still remains; like food, part of the whole organism; like tradition, richly with us, but forgotten in its source. As we have you still in memory. keep us now and then in your prayers. The good work you began must go on.

I had it all wrong. Thus in God's plamtm staff has been the means of planting the first whispering of a vocation. The staff l Mention must be made here of the good work these young men have done. m-aks moderator. I am like a football coach. I direct. give some advice here ahd there. but generally I sit On the sideline when the real work is doneIActually, the most fruitful and creative work comes from the staff itself. All who have puzzled, experimented, per- t spired patiently, and sacrificed generously must be recognized. Under the fine leader- ship of Ed Beutner. the fourth in '13 line at excellent editors, these students have again W succeededih producing Ia book which the entire school can be proud of. Very Reverend Louis E. Riedel, M.A. Played by ear. Father opens the football season. Into the Rector's office come the troubles of the seminary: the occasional discipline problems that get to the higher echelon, the transfer students. the maze of adminis- tration involvements. and the stray student who has a personal problem that must go upstairs. With all of these, and with other complications, the Very Reverend Louis E. Riedel manages to deal. and to maintain a composure and amiability that is remark- able under the circumstances. Such is the power of long habit, more properly called virtue. We can only hope. God willing, that Father Riedel can stand the wear, for he wears well. Page 5
