Vice Rector Reverend Leonard T. Bu ch No. I'm not smiling! joannes-Eac-totum The picture above is that of. the Busch brothers: Father Leonard Busch and his brother, Father Leonard Busch. One works by day, one by night. One is priest. teacher, and master of discipline. with a maze of information in his head. The other is infirmar- ian, boiler-tender, care-taker, joannes-fac-totum, and general overseer. They are never seen together, giving the impression that they are one. But this is an illusion. Someday the illusion will be out, and no one will be astonished. Unless they turn out to be triplets. Page 6

Very Reverend Louis E. Riedel, M.A. Played by ear. Father opens the football season. Into the Rector's office come the troubles of the seminary: the occasional discipline problems that get to the higher echelon, the transfer students. the maze of adminis- tration involvements. and the stray student who has a personal problem that must go upstairs. With all of these, and with other complications, the Very Reverend Louis E. Riedel manages to deal. and to maintain a composure and amiability that is remark- able under the circumstances. Such is the power of long habit, more properly called virtue. We can only hope. God willing, that Father Riedel can stand the wear, for he wears well. Page 5

I ; ?Q- M 274 p1 ua uect y Reverend James W. Doheny, B.A. . Herb Wolf is as much a part of our office as the typewriter; and he is as much a part of the seminary as a textbook. One just doesn't think of St. Francis apart from Herb Wolf. He is indispensable because of what he knows: students first names, addresses, past history of the school, the location of numbers of essential materials. He is indispensable more properly because of what he contributes to the spirit of St. Francis: his cheer, his ready smile, his banter, his deep interest in the students, his prayers. You just don't think of St. Francis apart from Herb Wolf. When the seminary begins to appear just like any other school, with the accent on discipline and study, it is Father Doheny who re-orientates the student, re- minding him that the seminary is primarily for the priesthood. This peculiar accent would be submerged in a number of activities, were it not for the constant vigilance and the spiritual leadership which Father Doheny exhibits. Through his hands pass the youth who will one day hold in their hands the destinies of the diocese. He directs them when they most need direction; he forms them when they are most responsive to formation. Father Doheny is in one of the key positions of the archdiocese. And he is competent.
