QQ Stew Robertson leaps high in the air to deflect the ball from the shooting arms of Ontario 's big Julian Laka, Hy virtue of a playoff series against Drain for the Emerald League title, St. Francis gained a ticket to the first annual A-2 State Tournament held at Salem from Nlarch 12-14. The Saints' first test was against Redmond. Although trailing by ten at halftime, 34-24, the boys pulled a stirring come-back to take the game away from the Panthers 51-49 the last 4 seconds, on a jump shot by Stew Robertson. lopposite pagel. Although Ontario ended the Saints' chance for the title, the Tigers were given a well remember- ed fight. Behind 22-9 at the first quarter, ,lim Souza's lads scored 19 points to the Tigers' 4, to lead at the half 28-26. The second half found the two teams fighting for the lead, and regula- tion time ended with both teams in deadlock. A foul in the last three seconds called on the Saints saw Ontario take the game by a 61-59 count. In the battle for the third-place position against Coquille, the Saints lost a heartbrealcer to the lied Devils, 57-56, again on a last second foul. They wound up in the fourth-place position. Stew flobertson's scoring efforts in the three games 21,32, and 24 points earned him the center spot on the All-State first team.
