The Saint Francis Freshman baseball team, coached by Dave Osorio and Paul Cunningham, repeated last year's success with a second consecutive WCAL championship. The team won a total of 16 out of 19 games and finished 9-2-1 in league competition. Pitcher Randy Hinkle finished with a 6-0 win-loss record and Mark Locatelli had 22 RBI's and 5 homeruns for the champions. Intelligent baserunning, solid defense, and pow- erful hitting provided the needed combination to win the title. Mark Locatelli was the Most Valuable Player, Mark Lustig was Most Improved, and Ted Rossi received the Coach's Award. ?ee .X After several rebuilding years and last year's team finishing 5th in the WCAL, the 1979 track season was one of the best in St. Francis history. The varsity team was undefeated with a 6-0 league record and a 9-0 overall dual-meet record. Under new rules this year, the league championship is now determined by the outcome of the dual-meets as well as the team perfor- mance in the WCAL finals. The Lancers met this chal- lenge as they capped their season by edging out Rior- dan for first place in the league meet, and thus regained the WCAL crown for the first time since 1974. St. Francis placers in the WCAL finals were as follows: 440 relay team tEd Calvo, Karl Broussard, Pat O'Hare, Gavin Carry 1st for the first time in school history and set a new school record of 43.6, lay Krackeler 1st 120 high hurdles, lim Kaspari, 2nd and Mark Tipton 4th two mile, Sam Cowley 6th in the mile, Karl Broussard 2nd in the 100, Gordy Lanser 3rd in the 440, Ben Ma- honey Znd, and joe Piazza 3rd in the pole vault, Karl Broussard 1st, and lay Krackeler 4th in the 330 low hurdles, Greg Ravizza Sth in the shotput, Greg Ravizza 2nd and Tim Maguire 3rd discus, Mike Norman 4th in the high jump, Gavin Carr 3rd in the long jump, Mile relay team tGavin Carr, Gordy Lanser, lay Krackeler, Karl Broussardj 2nd, and continuing their domination of the triple jump were Mike Norman Ustj, Chris Lewis t3rdj, and Greg Vitale Q4thj.
