The 1978 Lancer Frosh experienced one of the best seasons in recent St. Francis his- tory. The team, under the excellent coaching of Barry lvers, Chuck Pearlman, and newcomer john Komo, posted a record of 6 wins and 1 loss. The Frosh were devas- tating in league play where they captured first place with a record of 5 wins and 1 loss. They were the first freshman team to win the championship in five years here at St. Francis. jg? X In post-season honors, the team picked jim Hanley to be the Most Valuable Player, Mike Pope was the Most Valuable Offensive Player, and Kevin O'Brien was the Most Valuable Defensive Player. Steve McCaIlion was honored with being the Most lm- proved Offensive Player, and Sal Ganzon was the Most Improved Defensive Player. Overall, the season was marked with outstanding play and determination on the part of all the players. As Mr. Ivers put it, It was a Super season! Mark Locatelli shows his form on a Lancer punt. fix .s Coach Tuite The 1978 Varsity Cross Country season was almost a replay of the great 1977 season This year's team easily won the league with a perfect six wins and no losses recor After the league championships, in which six of the top nine finishes came from S Francis, the team traveled to CCS Region I finals. The Lancers performed excellentl as they finished with a strong second place finish, which qualified them for the CC finals. ln the end, St. Francis finished their successful season by finishing 11th out all the teams in the CCS. This year's team included seniors Paul McClure, Kurt Rochlitz, Mark Tipton and P Wahl, juniors lim Kaspari and Sam Cowley, and Sophomore Scott Gale. With th three returning members and additions from the junior Varsity and Frosh-Sop teams, the 1979 team could be just as successful! Scott Gale all by himself.
