Bill Leonard looks for pass from jon Carlson The St. Francis jV's won the WCAL championship for the third consecutive year with a league record of 6-0-0. The season was marked with several outstanding victories over strong league opponents Mitty and arch-rival Bellarmine. Quarterback jon Carl- son threw touchdown passes in each of these very crucial games. Earning All-League honors for the WCAL champion Lancers were jon Carlson, Greg Montalvo, john Quinn, Ken Balazs, Luke Faubion, Bill Leonard, and Steve Comfort. jon Carlson received the team MVP award, while Ken Balazs received the Most Valuable Lineman honor. The Most Valuable Back was Greg Montalvo and the Most Improved Player was joe Pagano. The season was a very successful one as the team posted a 7-1-1 record. Their suc- cess and the success of the whole football program goes to show that St. Francis is definitely the team to beat next year as the jV's move up to the Varsity. john Hopkins breaks away for a big gain T .5 Ln . The 1978 Lancer Frosh experienced one of the best seasons in recent St. Francis his- tory. The team, under the excellent coaching of Barry lvers, Chuck Pearlman, and newcomer john Komo, posted a record of 6 wins and 1 loss. The Frosh were devas- tating in league play where they captured first place with a record of 5 wins and 1 loss. They were the first freshman team to win the championship in five years here at St. Francis. jg? X In post-season honors, the team picked jim Hanley to be the Most Valuable Player, Mike Pope was the Most Valuable Offensive Player, and Kevin O'Brien was the Most Valuable Defensive Player. Steve McCaIlion was honored with being the Most lm- proved Offensive Player, and Sal Ganzon was the Most Improved Defensive Player. Overall, the season was marked with outstanding play and determination on the part of all the players. As Mr. Ivers put it, It was a Super season! Mark Locatelli shows his form on a Lancer punt.
