5 E222 D Wage 22 22255 Spirit Week is an annual event at St. Francis, promoting enthusiasm for the Home- coming Came on Friday, October 27, against Sacred Heart. Hat Day was held on Friday, October 20, preceding Spirit Week. Students were en- couraged to express themselves wearing hats of all varieties. Sophomore Chris Pa- lermo won a ten dollar prize for the best hat. The following Monday marked the official opening of Spirit Week with Poster Day. Spirit Groups and the classes decorated posters depicting school spirit and the theme, We're Great in '78. Tuesday was deemed Brown and Gold Day. Students were allowed to dress any way they wanted fwithin reasonl as long as it was brown and gold. It was also a testing day, so very little spirit was generated. Wednesday the Senior Class sponsored a Dawn Disco extravaganza presenting Chris Hawkins and Bill Larsen as disc-jockeys. l want my mommy. And God did it in six??? What'd you-get? Coffee, tea, or milk. Wednesday was also 50's Day, allowing students free dress in 50's styles. The winnel of the nostalgic dress-up contest was Brian Mortenson, who dressed himself as 2 hood. Thursday during both lunch periods the Varsity Cheerleaders put on a Cooking Show featuring Chef Pete Scanlan and his recipe for Irish Stew QSacred Hean Fighting lrishj. That same afternoon, the decorating of the halls commenced. Seniors decorated the Administration Building, juniors took the 200 Building, Sophomores the 300 Building and Freshmen, the Cafeteria. judging for the best hall took place while the student attended a bolstering night rally featuring a top heavy tug-o-war, and presentation o- bibs to the football players by the Spirit Groups. Friday, the day of the game, featured another rally honoring the many victorious ath- letic teams at S.F. Also, the Homecoming Queen nominees were presented to thi student body, and a wet t-shirt competition was held between the nominees' es corts. Norm Smith and his beautiful bod won. people passers, wheel barrow races and five-legged races helped bring a victory the Seniors over the juniors and a tie between the Freshmen and Sophomores. - niors were the winners of the hall-decorating contest and the Frosh were secon ln the afternoon, Play Day was held on Bro. Fisher Field. Tug-o-wars, pyramic s The Lancer Football Team was victorious over Sacred Heart that night, 14-35 and the Homecoming Dance, featuring S.F. Star, Cindy Grillo, escorted by jeff Pane fClass of '78j, was crowned Homecoming Queen. Gloria Cunha was runner-up. The Spirit Week of '78-'79 was a brief 6 days that we will not soon forget and hop to enjoy again. Wonder if anybody'll catch me. 166 Spirit Week
