if JUNIOR TRIP During the past two years changes have been made 10 the trad1t1o'1s or th school These have come to be recogmzed as a part or th l1fe at St r ranc1s On such change was our .Tumor Class tr1p Early on the mormng of May 7 1956 Slsters Enlmanucl and Ermemlde our chaperons, and the students assembled at the hosp1tal court Judg 1ng from all the bacrgage one mlght have thoufrht that we were about to 'take off on a tr1p around the world Our dest1nat1on was Detrolt M1Ch1gaH and Canada Wlth a quxck glance to check to mak certaln that no one had been lorgotten and a prayer for a salc Journey we were o'1 our way For some thls was thelr flrst tr1p away from home and thereiore there were evena few tcars These soon dlsappeared and songs and laughter l1lled the bus After a lull morn lngs r1de we caught ghmpse ofthe Golden Dome and we knew that we were at Notre Dame UH1VETS1ty After a tour of the can ,as we d1ned at the Un1vers1ty cafeter1a We stopped at W1llow Run Alrport near Detrolt to watch the many planes come and go Some of our largest a1rl1ners use the laC1l1t1SS of th1S a1rport on cross country and even mtcrnatlonal fhghts Perhaps some OL us dreamed of travel to dlstant places but we were .lull kly brou nt to reallty by the announcement that the bus was ready to leave lor nearby Detrolt After arr1v1ng at uve o clock we took a brlet rest before spenun S hp 6Vel'11I1g shoppmg 'JM 9--.4-f W-vi! 74 On the rollowmg mornmg we went to the Ford Plant and enjoyed the unlque exper1ence of watchlng a Car be1ng assembled and tested We ate lunch 1n th plant caleterla be ore golng to Green F1eld Vlllag forthe afternoon We toured the museum and some of the homes where famous men had l1ved It ha been a pleasant day but a busy one and most of us were content to spend a qulet evenlng On the th1rd day we went to bell Island but a steady ra1n prevented us from enjoymg the many amuse ments In the a ternoon our ent1re group took ad vantage ofthe damp day to share the thr1lls of C1n erama Agaln the even1ng was spent restlng a few amb1t1ous 1nd1V1duals went s1ghtsee1ng The last day ofthe tr1p was a lull one 1ndeed Smce It was Ascens1on Thursday we attended Mass at St Aloyslus Church 10 downtown Detrolt After break foot forthe f1rstt1me on Canad1an so1l after our 1n terest1ng r1de through the Detro1t W1ndsor tunnel We certamly were a typlcal group of s1ghtseers We p1ckedupa souvemr or two as a memento of our v1s1t to a forelgn country At noon We began our long Journey home At Fort Wayn we stopped to see St Francls College and then traveled through Hoos1er land to La ayette Late 1n the evemng we rolled 1nto the hosp1tal grounds to the tune or 'Go On W1th the Bus The tr1p was over the memor1es rema1n It was mdeed on of the hlghllghts ol our Junlor Year Mffpz 14 . l':l 'vv1f'a- Lui Page 22 Q mi 1. . . .
