A rarity among students is our beloved former classmate, Elmer. Truly one of the brightest stars in the sky of our achievements, he was the spark plug of our class for the duration of his stay at St. Francis. A sportsman to the core, he served as Catcher for the class softball team for three seasons. Not satisfied with being an athlete only in the Spring and early Summer, he was a football player in the Fall, and a sensational basketball player in the dreary Winter months. And, through it all, he maintained an even keel of excellence and a high degree of team spirit. Turning to scholastic topics, We find it the easiest task to spot Elmer, since he was at the very pinnacle of the Brain Trust. During the entirety of the three years he spent with us, he never had to fear any serious competition for the top honors of the class When it came to mental work. With amazing speed of perception and an almost superhuman memory for facts, figures, and grammatical rules, he easily surmounted the obstacles which proved too great for the majority of us. To top it all, he had the rare honor of receiving an honor card for each and every fifth-Week period that he spent at his Alma Mater. They say that the U. S. Army gets the best of everything, Elmer. Well, all We can say is that they certainly did just that when they took you away from us! We've certainly missed you in this last year of ours at St. Francis, but at least we're thankful for those glorious first three years!

This can not be said of many fellows, but it can be easily applied to Boston. A go-gette-r, he stuck to a job until he had it finished. After two years ot disappointment, he finally succeeded in earning a place for himself on the Varsity Basketball team, which only goes to prove his perseverance and strength of character. When it came to intramural sports competition, lohn was not a specialist. Baseball, football, basketball, or any other sport, he tackled it with equal vigor and always seemed to come out on top when the fight was over. Good sport, good student, good friend-Good Luck!

Attesting to Bernie's leadership ability and sparkling personality is the fact that in his Senior year, his fellow-students thought him capable of holding the presidential office in three different and separate instances. This ability to lead and to be followed, gave him the opportunity to mold and formulate the very actions of his colleagues and we can say-not safely, but assuredly -that he did his duty well. Surpassing the average student in versatility, Bernie found himself able to make a niche in other fields besides executive capacity. The unsurpassed excellence of his accordion playing, combined with a natural sense of humor and a means of expressing his feelings, tended to make him one of the outstanding musicians and entertainers St. Francis has ever produced. fl-le has at least four different pieces of music to his credit as a composerj. Out in front while at St. Francis, may you always stay in the limelight of public opinion, Bernie! I7 Elmwood Street New Castle, Pa.
