de Sales on the air Bridget O'Farre11, Rita Colangelo, Judy Bentz, Florence McFarlane, Charles F riel, john Cressle, Charles Shirnpl Ernest George, Susan Heckman, and Philip Fischer do a skit about the Red Cross. The year 1949-50 saw a new project inaugu- rated at St. Francis High. Every other week on Wednesday at 1:80 our school had its own quarter-hour broadcast over WCLT. Every class and club gave a program of its choice, thereby affording a great variety of plays such as: musical, historical, and dramatical. The participants in the radio skits agree that it takes a great amount of practice and time to prepare for such a program, but the excite- ment and enjoyment of actually giving it on the air is reward enough. Some of the work which precedes a finished program is writing script, selecting the cast, rehearsing until the program runs smoothly, timing and cutting. and devising sound effects. Radio plays an important part in America today. There are a great many departments for which one can prepare as, advertising, sell- ing, music librarian, sports announcing, en- gineering, disc-jockey, etc. WVe were spell- bound when Parnell Egan explained all of these to us during Vocation NVeek. It is the desire of the faculty to give the students an actual taste of this type of work. Who knows? Maybe one of our own students will someday become a great radio star! 1 1 il lwfty Iwte
