Beyond acknowledgment and beyond praise are the many favors she has extended to us during our years at St. Francis. May our lives be well-lived and our thoughts and prayers in the years ahead be compensation for her efforts in our behalf. To Sister Thomasine then with sincerest thanks we offer this issue of the Fransalian. Ev-:sf XC7N' Most Rev. Urban J. Classes The chair symbolizes Mary as a cenfer or base from which Truth radiates. To fake God's point of view is perfection of under- sfanding and fhe goal presenfed fo us in daily classes. Shades of Benjamin Franklin. Tom Bordon shows Pat Lowe, Donald Alders and William Easton how to generate enough current to light this small bulb. Pump harder, Berry, say Danny O'Connor and Annita Phannenstiel as they watch an experiment in physics class. Sounds almost perfect. Paul Yeager demonstrates a homemade sounder and key to Geraldine Von Feldt and Marilyn Pence. 15 Nol' much bigger are i they? Toni Micheletti, Mary Ellen Potter, Harry Puncec, P a u l a Hanson i and Terry Dreiling watch the progress of their gen- eral science aquarium. 'ln Is this the way you're supposed to do it? ask Barbara Cabela, Dennis Clifford and Robert Green- wald. Smug and satisfied, James Cara- ghar smiles as Chuck Kirby and Bob Nau work on a trigonometry problem. See, it's simple, explains Terry Han- nauer to Sandy Mal- Iy in their freshmen algebra class. mn--livin-J:-41,3 ls it geometry or something else that intrigues Dan Smith? Pat Fisher, Rosella Petrun, Virginia Schwindt, Patricia Keegan, and Agnes Jo Cas- kins seem interested in circles. NE Flpyjs Must be the jokes. Patti Sue Benelli and Alice Casey seem to find something funny in the news as Patricia Nicolai, Nancy Peck and Donna Kelly study seriously with the rest ofthe class. Far away places with strange sounding names perplex Catherine Ten Barge, Mary Kay Kottenstette and the rest of the class as Andrew Dickson reads in history class. Wish we were there, sighs Rosetta Wolf as she points out New York to Peggy Partsch and Jackie Pfannen- stie Thot's Thirty, Linda Ackley reporting-with help from Patricia Herman, Roy Dough- erty and Michael Caimara. ls if this peaceful every day in civics class or only when a show is in progress? These are the marks you got on that lost test, says Father Aylward as everyone's ears prick up, especially those of Ronald Burke, Allen Grand and James Caraghar. L A N G U A G E S Come what come may, senior English students will study Macbeth. A school office worker, Donna McNamara, sneaks in some shorthand homework during a slack period. Teacher for a day - Susan Urquhart explains the mechanics of diagraming to Ronald Shepard and the class. Not camera shy. Mary Figlino seems more interested in the camera than in her freshmen Latin class. Je parle francais en peu, say Norma Von Feldt, Thomas McCabe, and William Trumble. Something to be proud of! smiles Monsignor Smith as he congratulates Pat Schmitz and Margaret Hilbert on their good work in winning the Latin trophy. Quiet! Geniuses at work! Kevin Traynor and Catherine Ten Barge work on their papier mache animals while Dave Carragher pastes his mask together. A R T It's o present for T Mom, explains Lou Anne Bettinger to Le- land Strahl, John Yedo and Dorothy Thompson. Hanging their portraits are Don Fruh, Dave Carragher, Harold Kiley and Joe Bagan as Miss Herold supervises. M U S I C There's a song in the air, as Mrs. Lasham directs the boy's chorus. Study was never like this . . . could it have been posed? Norma Artzer, Mary Patania, Celia Jacquez and Nancy Kiehm seem to think so. COMMERCIAL Now is the time for all good men . . . fype the junior boys ond girls. 'I could have sworn it said 'Dear Sir,' jokes Mary Ellen Corroll to Donna McNomoro. Activities The musical instrument symbolizes the joy which is our Christian heritage: the dove represents the Holy Spirit. Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, a virtue which is the effect of charity or love. Mary possessed joy in its fullnessf she wants us in all our activities to reflect this joy also. C ognoscetis Veritatem You Shall Know the Truth Spreading the faith through literature, Donna Kelly, Bar- bara Cabela and Carol Springer prepare to send Catholic books to faraway places. The second round proved to be more of a battle. Cathedral trailed S F only one point at half but fell back in the third quarter after Coach Stro hauer's half-time strategy was executed. Action with Mullen, the State champs, was nip and tuck the first round until it was broken up in the last quarter. The Cardinals from Annunciation found the Gremlins' height too much to overcome. A last minute blast against the reserves in the second round had to be smothered by the starters. Holy Family, led by Dick Haggerty, crowded the Gremlins throughout the second game with the outcome uncertain until the final minute Starting slow again, St. Francis trailed the lower-bracket Mount Carmel who hit 6 for 7 from the field the first frame. The tide changed and victory number l5 was marked in the Gremlin books. The St. Francis' reserves once more played as the team clobbered St Joseph's the first round. The second round proved more of a defensive game and saw the Gremlin zone outshine the Bulldogs to take the win The big test came in the form of the Regis Raiders, After a 30 point defeat the first round, S.F. came back powerfully, battling to a I9-l9 half time tie. The third quarter made the difference and the Gremlins' defense held the powerful Raider offense to their lowest score of the season This ended the league play with St. Francis and Regis co-champions. The second game of the tourney brought St. Francis against Holy Family for the fourth time this year. S.F.'s fourth win came after the slow starting five gained their poise in the second quarter and continued it the rest of the game. The Gremlins lead 18-6 at the end of the first quarter and 40-12 at half.
