PRESIDENT Saint ?zaneia Calfege Biddelozd, main: 04005 May 13, 1975 To the Class of 1975 It is not particularly easy to write words of optimism to students who have suffered through one of the most agonizing periods in our history -- the era of the Vietnam war. The great American dream seems to have be- come a nightmare of pollution, scarcity and agonizing doubts. Our senses are constantly assaulted by words, pictures, smells and sounds of discord ond disharmony. The era of unlimited opportunities appears over and the era of learning to live with less is commencing. Thus, the traditional encouraging words to graduates about a world with open arms awaiting them seem most inappropriate. What does await each and every one of you, however, is a world that cries out for people of peace, of integrity and courage. As educated citizens, you have the opportunity to participate in the reordering of our priorities and in the reshaping of the life style of this nation. I hope that you seize the opportunities as they confront you and that you will commit yourselves to developing a humane, rational existence for us all.
