Some forever not for better, some have gone and some remain All these places had their moments with lovers and friends I still can recall. Some are dead and some are living, In my life Pve loved them all. But of all these friends and lovers there is no one compares with you And these memories lose their meaning When I think of love as something new. Though I know I’ll never lose affection for people and things that went before. I know I’ll often stop and think about them. In my life I’ll love you more. 77 SOME LAST WORDS Dear Lee. Mrs. Driscoll 82 'A Prism of Nature There Is a special place Just for me, The serene and placid beach I walk along, alone on a sunny spring morning Befriending Nature. I stand on the beach, And beneath my feet Lies the warm, golden sand — The sand of the past, present, and future That seems mystical and magical to me. The wonder of the beach Illuminates The echoes of yesterday and the Shadows of the past. Apollo’s sun glistens and gleams Over my shoulder. Watching over the whole wondcrous Universe. I hear Nature beckoning me Through the whistling of the winds, And the crashing of the waves. As the wind blows through my locks, 1 dig my toes Into the sand. The sea makes no demands But gives me Immeasurable pleasure. The bold, loud chants of the wind are getting louder. O' please protect me from the Powerful whispers of your breath. The breath brings back my childhood dreams That I once had. The solitude and stillness help me escape reality. And enter a spiritual wonderland. I want to be free as a wild horse. I want to be free as a dove on a carefree flight. I want to be free as a cloud with a silver lining. I want to be nutured by the sunshine. I want to stay here forever. As I continue my journey on The lonely, desolute beach I look at the ripples of Heaven’s tears and curdles of white foam. I focus my eyes towards the Azure blue sky and notice a Beautiful rainbow filled with A spectrum of bright, vibrant colors, I think of finding a pot of gold I feel so peaceful, without the Chaos or confusion. And with peaceful Illusions, 1 feel as tranquil as a butterfly The beach reflects the prism Of my heart and the mirror Of my soul. This Is all I need to hear, the Sounds of Nature around me I wish I could stay, but Life must go on. By Veronica R. Duchene 83 LAST WORDS “Education is a future Investment.” Graduation is just the beginning of it. This does not only concern the students in relation to the college, but also their relation to the surrounding communities. One of the main purposes of the Student Government is to act as a sounding board for any desires and interests the student might express. Along with the responbility of hearing the needs of the student body, the Student Government of St. Francis is trying to make a better St. Francis to all concerned. Their services are for the benefit of the students as individuals and as part of the college. The elections for Student Government positions occur every Spring semester of every academic year. These elections are very important because the people elected play a very important role at the college as student representatives. They are elected by a majority of the student body; and for that reason they are expected to act as the legitimate representatives of the student body and are to act in the best interests of the students. There were approximately twenty-one students taking the trip as a course entitled “Nations of the Modern World: England.” The course included lectures from Dr. Hughes as well as guest speakers. This was combined with tours to points of historical interest throughout London. Producing a yearbook is obviously not an individual effort. There are many individuals who either directly or indirectly affect the production of the yearbook, and they all merit thanks. Firstly, to Dudley and Shirley of Lorstan-Thomas Photography studios, I thank you for your endless patience and understanding when there were those times that I know I must have driven you crazy. A very special thanks goes out to Tom Keogh, a true gentleman who made my job as Editor a little easier through his guidance. Also, to Melody and all of the people at Taylor Publishing Company who made this book a reality. To Dean Adams and Miss Fay, thank you for all of your support, I could not have done anything without you both. Also, a big thanks to everyone in St. Francis who gave myself and the staff a great year to record. Finally, there is the staff of the Franciscan. How do I go about thanking a group of people who stuck together, worked so hard, and put up with my occasional (O.K. more than occasional) ranting and raving? I cannot possibly put into words how much 1 appreciated all of you and how much 1 will miss you. The most I can say is that it was a truly unforgettable experience working with the staff and one I would not have missed. There are also people who were not directly on staff, but we owe a lot to: Danny, thanks for a terrific art job on the cover and dividers, you truly captured the essence of the yearbook, and Chris, thanks so much for the use of the camera. Looking back on the past year, 1 tend to focus more on the good days and am starting to forget about the dreaded all night sessions, and Saturdays spent in completing this yearbook. Generally, I am coming away from this experience with good feelings, and the bad feelings. I’m sure will go away after a few years of good therapy! I hope everyone enjoys this yearbook as much as the staff has in bringing it to you. I wish everyone at St. Francis a bright and happy future. Joann M.
