Pope Piux IX incorporated the explanation of Blessed Duns Scotus into the dogma proclaimed in 1854. In 1209, St. Francis of Assisi dedicated the Franciscan Order to the Blessed Mother, which celebrates on its calendar the Feast of Mary, Queen of the Franciscan Order, December 15th, the octave of the Immaculate Conception. Election to membership in the Society is based on high scholastic standing, participation in extra-curricular activities, evidence of loyalty to the ideals of St. Francis College and demonstration of a true Franciscan spirit. At commencement, each member has the privilege of wearing the distinctive red and blue tassel on the cap. Membership does not cease at graduation. 45 BUSINESS CLUB Lawrence Becker Michael Beltrami Robert Brown Joseph Bucke Stephen Bumbaca George Buzzetta Richard Cardiff Elaine Carroll Patricia Carucci Thomas Clark Louis Curtis James Damiani Paul DeGrazia Philip DeVito Nick Fodera Anthony Formica Brian Hall Sandra Jchanty Kathleen Kearney Biagio Lubrano Leonard Lubrano Joseph Macannuco Carl Malfitano Peter Maloney Mary Marini Thomas McEvoy Michael Miller Kenneth Notaro Kevin O'Donnell Joseph Ponzio James Reidy Robert Sagona Michael Sautcr Gerard Scott Deo Shivcharran Douglas Turnbull Steve Visciglia Janet Vullo Robert Wojtacki Kevin Zuccala mmm Established in 1910, the St. Francis College Business Club continues to promote the principles of “scientific management.” Two years later the first Professional Management Society was formed. Meetings of the Student Senate and the Executive Committee headed by President A1 Risicato led to such “Is this any way to run a government?' innovations as Party in the Park. This Saint Francis College first allowed the students and faculty alike, to partake in an enjoyable afternoon get-together this fall at Belmont Lake State Park. Other school functions which served to unify the student body were several weekend mixers held in the cafeteria, and well appreciated popular movies shown in Founder’s Hall. Other events sponsored were the traditional Soph-Frosh Ball and Senior Prom, new additions to the game room, and the opening of the new sun roof. Hi, Mom! Hi, Dad! Various activities were sponsored for the freshmen in order to get acquainted. There was a brown bag lunch, a movie, a pool party, tours of Brooklyn Heights, and the annual barbecue. Although the weekday events suffered from poor attendance, Saturday’s turn out was favorable. The faculty was available during the morning hours to discuss the courses offered in their departments and members of various clubs and fraternities recruited during lunch on the roof. The day ended with a volleyball game between the faculty and the students. “Them” beat “Us” two games to one. Frosh Enjoying the festivities are (top 1-r) RoscMaric I'isichclli. St. Francis received visitors from the film community. On September 28, they were here to shoot scenes for a film entitled “A Secret Space.” It was the story of a young Jewish boy’s conflict with his parents. The film revolved around the boy’s struggle to maintain an Orthodox lifestyle in his home. The film was directed by Ms. Roberta Hodes, who together with Rosalyn Rcgelson wrote the scrccn-play. The scenes of a community center were filmed in our gymnasium. The film, which was seen in March on Channel 13, starred Robert Klein, Phyllis Newman, and Virginia Graham. The part of the boy was played by 11 year old Jon Matthews. 80 Arthur J. Konop received calls from neighboring states as they prepared for the Bicentennial. John Grzanka helps to organize and decode original documents. The James A. Kelly Institute for Local Historical Studies of St. Francis College was created in 1973 and named for the late Borough Historian of Brooklyn. It houses one of New York’s largest collections of primary source records on Local History. Original charters of the Dutch and English Governors, Indian deeds, Town Records and miscellaneous documentations account for over three million pieces. The map used for the front endsheet as well as the line drawings used for divider pages were obtained from the Institute’s collection. The Congressman John Rooney and Congressman Eugene Keogh Collections, Alderman Peter McGuincss Collection and Francis Sinott papers as well as a number of political scrapbooks and memorbilia have been added for the scholars and students of Urban Politics to research. Upon entering St. Francis we all had the same graduation destination in mind. However, the roads we chose to travel tended to differ among the various majors and individuals. The way each of us reached graduation depended upon the type of vehicle driven as well as the maps and signs followed. The Class of 1976 had quite a few graduates who test drove a new highway called C.L.E.P. They merged with the other travelers for the remaining three years of tolls, detours and other obstacles. Do you remember those tolls? They were not spaced very evenly, were they? Twice a year tuition payments were due, along with a toll for books, a toll for labs, a toll for fees, and another for supplies. Then it was free riding, until we approached the next semester’s toll booths. For some, the toll zones were just a slow down as they threw their monies into the basket. For others, it was a time when toll collectors reported their numbers to the highway patrol. They were subsequently pulled off the road because of an outdated registration or invalid inspection sticker. It was quite frustrating to have pre-registered and then have all your courses cancelled. Occasionally, you were stopped due to an administrative error. Other times, you just forgot to pay on time. Do you remember the flat tires, overheated radiators and engine troubles? You were stopped for an hour or two under the boiling, hot sun without a spare. There were days when you were not prepared for those tests. You failed them and, therefore, had to spend more time on repairs. You had to study harder to make-up that low grade in order to receive a higher one as your final mark. Yes, there were times when you had to slow down a little and carry a lighter load, so that you could make it all the way. The weather conditions and the contour of the road added to the difficulty in driving. Occassional glances at the roadside warned you about dangerous grounds. The guard rails were dented by careless drivers. Their C’s and D’s hampered future traveling but they were able to continue their journey. However, some other cars were not as fortunate. Their F’s remained on the road as do wrecked and abandoned cars. These people had to get another vehicle before they could get back on the highway. Let us not forget the stops for food, fuel, rest and relaxation. We met former traveling companions of the Core Curriculum. We compared notes on the routes taken and joined them in the variety of extracurricular activities available along the way. No matter what maps we followed or roads we traveled, each was patrolled. We were warned that any traffic violators would be prosecuted and also that people in distress would be assisted in times of need. Both the Administration and Faculty were skilled for this highway patrol. Each time you look at this book, I hope you remember the roads traveled during the 1975-1976 academic year. I would like to extend my appreciation to all those who have helped in the production of this log. To Raymond Domkowski, my assistant; to my family and friends for their encouragement; and to my staff for all their time and effort. Seniors: You have reached your destination-congratulations on receiving your degree. Good Luck to you on your next trip in whatever direction it takes you. Underclassmen: Keep your eyes on the road. It has been traveled before and there arc cars coming up behind you. To All: Have a safe trip on your continuing journey through life.
