QA ,V 0I'8lfU0l By a happy coincidence, St. Francis Academy celebrated its silver jubilee during the Marian Year. On October 11, 1954, the school crowned its twenty-fifth anniversary by dedicating a spacious new addition to the building which had served the community for a quarter of a century. Toward the end of the Marian Year, all students, housed in the old and new building, joined in the crowning festivities to honor Our Lady. These important events encourage the class of 1955 to use the crown as the theme of its annual. The crown is a symbol of honor and grati- tude. Appearing throughout the book, it is to remind us of our fervent devotion to Our Lady whom the Holy Father crowned with the new title QUEEN OF THE UNIVERSE because through her salvation is coming to all men. In paying this tribute of love and honor to her, we are also pleasing those who under her banner have labored during these twenty- five years here at the Academy and through their personal sacrifices have erected this new addition for our use. It was a great pleasure for us seniors to produce MEMORIES of 1955. May its pages hold fast the pleasant memories of this highly significant year and grant all its readers blissful moments of reliving happy hours with beloved friends. Qcficafiofl fdfvdmm Q-.....f Marian Assembly .ji a The Seniors had the privilege of conducting an assembly on Decem- ber 7, 1954, to commemorate the closing of the Marian Year. The event started off with a procession of the school through the spacious halls to the gymnasium. Rev. Father Smalley and Rev. Father Huebsch were leading. Six senior boys carried the statue of Our Lady, preceded by little pages and flower girls. The school choir was chanting the Litany. First on the program was a series of speeches on the great signifi- cance of the occasion. Then followed the Living Rosary around the gym with the entire student body participating. The girls in blue skirts and white blouses represented the Hail Marys while the boys in Sunday suits stood for the Our Fathers. The room was darkened except for the vigil lights which were lit in turn as each Hail Mary was recited. The climax of the program was the Coronation of Our Lady's statue as the Queen of St. Francis Academy. Rev. Father Smalley's inspiring address added the finishing touches to the students' efforts. After his priestly blessing all dispersed with the zeal of doing their best to please Our Lady as QUEEN OF ST. FRANCIS ACADEMY. is oumg if N, LM Qcficate l emoziej X955 W 75 Dafa, ,, 1. f l me f. 3 -U A 7' ' fif i 2 M, , . , ' WLM I Qj:'gf,'v A - L..
