M Qlass linsinrg Durirg up Holy ren- 1950, we sw-md mga school -' Llthoughonlyllofushadmdetheirgradesattheacadeqy 1 z v we were soon acquainted with each other and not a little proud when we realised that we were the first class with a . , boys' ljority We knew then alreaxh that whatever success ff' or failure we should net as s class would go down to the ' score of the leculim elemnt With Sr Hichburga as our advisor,we elected Charles,l4ar'y,Frank and Rita as officers Six of us went out for football, five joined baek:etball,and seven sang in the chorus We were deeply stirred by our first retreat under Father Lang field,and in Deceiaer lost of us were received into the Sodality With Betty as our can didate, we tried hard to win the carnival queen race, but cold facts kept us down to the fourth place We were rather disappointed that three of our class did not com beck ln the fall of 1951, but we were also encouraged by three mwcomersa Gernim, Dean, a.nd Betty Lou Sister Richburga was again our advisor and helped us to establish leadership under Ger naim, Kenneth, Dean, and George Mary Ellen worked harder than ever to win the carnival queen crown, but again we had to be satisfied with fourth place As a cheerleader with boundless ent-husiasa,Geraaine yelled from the sidelines to hsep our boys in the fighting spirit Rev Father Breitenbeck guided us in our second retreat In January, Catherine Seil left our ranks to Join the Sisters of St Francis 'lhcugh depleted in nuizer to 20, we started enthusiastically :Ln 1952 as full fledged upperclassmn Were we ever happy to welcom as mw nabers Barbara from Sels, and Bay from Kent! With the rich experience of Sr M Francis we mnaged our big business Bob, Germaine, Charles S and Mary !ll,en were elected officers A second tin Betty was called upon to head our carnival queen campaign We should have won that tin, but others,aore shrewd than we,wouldn't let us get higher than third place As an excellent cheerleader, Betty mde the pep squad yell for victory Germine, Betty, Dean, Charles 8 and Charles Klimk furnished talent for the Junior-senior class play 'Here Cons Charlie We cer- tainly were aiaitious history students when we calpaigned for the Presidential candi dates in a lively panel discussion on the eve of election day We are still thrilled over the challenging support the seniors gave us from the floor Before All Saints Day, Very Bev Father Clarus, CBB, from St John's Collegeville, helped us aake a good retreat In the sprirg of '53, we financed a trip, with the seniors as our guests, to the Univer sity of llorth Dakota and Barbara can in as class officers Barbara placed a very close second in the queen contest Bob, George, Ray, and Frank went out for football, frank persevered on the bas ketball teaa. Early in NOTBQOI' we attended Career Day at the State School of Science inilahpeton Som of us at least clarified their hazy notions about the future then Hearing thathalfoftheboyswanttobefarmrs, andfourofthegirlsareplanningfor teachirg,we are surely confident that the Dakotas will be a better place to live in when once allthe latent and accumulated wisdcl of the Lcadeq s 'Sh is released on the fields and in the schools of the prairie Early :Ln October, Rev !ather lhinrad, Of-IB, gave us the annual retreat We are still thinking of his way of praying the rosary with ue To our great surprise, we heard that Marvin Peterson, one of our fortr claesmtes, went to Fort Wayne, Ind to becom a lay brother In January we felt happy to see Florence and Marie join as poetnlants lncou raged by our success as panel electioneers in 1952, we ventured forth to arrarge for the opening of the Harlan Iear 'hae success of this X5 program confirnd us in the plan of our biggest pro- ject: an annual to honor the Issnculate Conception Everyone is helping to achieve this goal and bring -a ,- joy to all fellow students and friends Throughout the year we saw our new school addition growing low Qu wearekeenlylookingforwardtothedaywhenweare sl ua fmt cms no he gr-mused from the mv .nge K 6 I I Z . .
