Plans for the proposed grade school building pictured above. One of life's great purposes is that of making the future better than was the past. The Board of Education has addressed itself to that high purpose and has presented a plan diagrammatically shown on this page. It envisions the best available in modern architecture and design. All this is directed to the end that the youth of St. Elmo Unit will have a better chance to develop their greatest possibilities. In prospect are three new buildings, Loudon and Wheatland each for the first six grades and an addition to high school to accommodate a junior-senior high school. These are the schools reorganized to give greater opportunity for all grades. Elementary grades will be concentrated with one or two to a room, upper grades will have the benefits of departmental organizations and present high school students will have enlarged opportunities due to improved facilities. As these visions become reality the Board will have modernized the schools in keeping with other facets of everyday living. Look to the future with the Board and see schools in harmony with the myriad of new devices that grace homes and highways. Hard work and devotion to duty unfold things to come. haw-vu -. They took part in the annual school magazine sales in October. Their next project was the junior class play, just Ducky, which was well received by a large audience. Throughout the school,s athletic seasons the juniors had concessions at football and basketball games. These events were climaxed with plans and preparations for the junior- Senior Prom on May 16. Those given high honors for their scholastic work were NValter Roll, Galen Underwood, Rita Ann Niemeyer, Kenneth Gillespie, and Patsy Rogers. Peggy Sparks and Rita Ann Niemeyer were chosen by the sophomores to be candidates for homecoming queen. Although neither was given the honor of being queen, both placed high in the balloting. The class, as a whole, took part in the freshman initiation with great pride in being upper classmen for the first time. They have also held a skating party, a valentine party, and have had a line representation in football, basketball, track, and band. Early in September the council honored the freshmen at an all-school party. The council prepared the scoreboard for use for the first time at the home grid contests. This yearls council members devoted much time to re- vision of the constitution and a clearer inter- pretation of it. For the Christmas season the council supervised the decorating of the build- ing and conducted the school's Christmas party with the assistance of the F. ll. A. and Band. The student representatives. as in previous years. distributed concessions of the football and basketball games to the various classes. Since the ping-pong tables were set up in the lobby of the gym, they established the rules for regulating the use of the tables and the conduct of the player. The council owes much of its success in the activities of the past year to their sponsor, Mr, Beck. XVith his helpful suggestions and advice the council has been able to achieve so many things advantageous to the entire student body.
