I lf' l L 75 We, the Class of 1959, humbly dedi- cate this issue of the ELIZABETHAN to our late Holy Father, Pope Pius XII. 4 His Excellency, The Mos! Reverend John J. Mitty, D.D. Archbishop of San Francisco Very Reverend Dennis Mahoney, 0.F.M Pastor An annual is, more often than not, a one-sided record. A person does not refer to THE ELIZAIETHAN or any yearbook for a wholly obiective and exact picture of school life. lt is understood that you will see many unfamiliar sights in these pages. You will hardly recognize certain people with their freckles retouched. Committees, too, will appear whose members never quite managed to gather again after the picture. And painful poses galore have been preserved for future laughs. Yet, despite more pages, something is clearly missing. You will not find a record here of the year's mistakes, of the flops and fluffs. We dispel all guilt, however, with a shnig. After all, a yearbook is not expected to include a.school's mis- takes. Only triumphs deserve publication. Years from now, you will drag this very yearbook from some ancient trunk in the attic to spend an evening thumbing through dusty memories. And by then most of the flops and fluffs will long have disappeared beneath the shifting sands of time. . While the staff has worked feverishly to produce an outstanding ELIZAIETHAN-1959, it is well to. remember another look in the making: THE ETERNAL BOOK. On this Volume the cover means nothing, padded or otherwise. Type and layout are unessential. What is staggeringly important, however, is that the contents of THE BOOK are an exact record of every instant in our lives-for better or for worse. There will be no corny, artificial poses, no canned smiles. Only stark reality. Our lives will be there moment by moment with photographic accuracy. The ledger page will list both credit and debit for all the world to see. Nothing will be missed. The deepest secrets will be unlocked and shouted from the housetops. And dead men will tell tales. Any student who ignores the eventual publication of THE ETERNAL IOOK is wasting his time and his Catholic education. Look to the Great Commencement! : X 4, Q- 1 FATHER EMERY TANG, 0.F.M.
