Tw ,. .,:i is to 5 t . i A Ita r t t I l l l i .Y l The Center for Creative Ministry is a Christian live-in experience that opened its doors in the fall semester, 1978. Housed on the third floor ol' Andre Hall, the center has a three-fold purpose: the es- tablishment ofa Christian community, the study of ministry, and the development of volunteer services within the local area. The community began with eight mem- bers the first semester and increased to eleven members by the second semester. Besides maintaining the regular functions ofthe house, including cooking and clean- ing, the members commit themselves to an on-going community prayer life along with times for private prayer. The Center is ecumenical, therefore allows a variety of 5 O spiritualities and religions to come together as a Christian blend of worship. In order to enhance this study, the Center provides a weekly forum that invites peo- ple from around the country to share various aspects of service. Throughout the year, 27 speakers have shared ideas on topics ranging from scripture to ritual, from prison reform to hunger, and from specific organizations to national con- cerns. These weekly forums entitled liv- ing room sessionsw have provided an on- going educational setting not only for the Center's community but also for the general university and local community. Each member has performed volunteer work and services within the local com- munity. Community members have pro- vided educational experiences in religious education programs, bible study pro- grams, health care services, retreat pro- grams, and advocacy roles for the elderly, women issues, and amnesty programs. Dedicated to the belief that all people are called to serve others, the Center is one of the more unique college programs in the country that provides an opportunity for individuals to discern what gift they have to share with others. It is the hope of the Center that after experiencing this pro- gram of prayer, study, and action, the members will continue this service after college.
