Y Czech Club CCONCLUDEDD The club meetings are held on the Hrst and third Monday of the month, and are attended by all the members. Combined with the regular business, a social function is also given. These meetings are conducted in such a manner as to furnish entertainment in themselves. The Czechs were represented in all of the Intra-mural activities. New suits were bought for basket-ball, and the club made a strong bid for the champion- ship of the league. At the close of the season the Czech team made a trip to Hallettsville, in At the time club intends to end of the year. made to have Czechs of Texas University. order to administer the activities of the club in that locality. of this writing, the have a picnic at the i Plans are also being a dance, with the Bohemian newspapers were sub- scribed for, and are at the disposal of the club. Articles about the club are sent to the Bohemian papers often. The activities of the club, under the direction of Brother Peter, have re- ceived hearty approval of the faculty and the student body. It is the hopes of the members of this club, that their work in organizing it may be re- warded, by having a great increase in members next year. At the end of the year the club in- tends to give a present to its mem- bers who are graduating. Inner row: MARIKQ STAVINOHAQ G. STRAUSSQ R. Srxzixuss. Outer raw: SLIVAQ C. STRAUSSQ J. Czech Club A new and very active organization took form early in the school year with the founding of the Czech Club, composed of those students who are of a Bohe- mian or Polish nationality. It has for its purpose to create a more lively and cnthuastic interest in the Czech language, and to promote the interests of the University in the various Bohemian localities of Texas. It is hoped by the members, that this club may gain Statewide publicity in order that more Czech students will come to St. Edward's. With no precedent as a guide for their proceedings the club snapped into action in the very opening weeks of i school. Officers for the club were elected, and a Constitution was adopted. Dues were assessed, and with them, social gatherings were held. With the intention of having a Bohemian class started at the Uni- versity, the Czechs worked with earnest zeal with this point in view. Receiving donations from different societies and good-hearted people for this purpose, these dreams were ac- complished when a class was started at the beginning of the ,second semester with the Rev. Paul Kasper of Plum, as professor. It is the hope of the club that this class will con- tinue in the University, and that next year a Bohemian professor will be ac- quired for this purpose. These classes are being held twice a week, and are attended fully by the members. Tap: JOHN BARTA, PR15s1DENT. W Outer raw: BIELKOWSKIQ GAIDAQ KMIEC. 1 Inner row: FALTISEKQ Hvzsoosg KOPECKY. Spanish Club The Spanish Club organized in 1928 was originally an organization composed of members of Spanish descent. This year in order to broaden their activities they decided to invite as members any student who had a conversational knowl- edge of Spanish. This step brought in several members who could not otherwise have joined. The purpose of the club is to enable its members to acquire a facility in the use of Spanish, and to bring into close connection the Spanish speaking students of the school. Although they have not been as active this year in the line of dramatics as they have formerly been they have taken a big part in the other campus activities. l Under the guidance of Fr. O'Don- nell who has served as faculty advisor the club has sustained a very co- operative spirit. Manuel Ochoa, the president of the club, is responsible for the interesting and entertaining meetings that have been character- istic of the club this year. Regular meetings were held each month for the benefit of the members. Outer row: OCHOA, E. VILLARREAL, C. BENA- l vines, R. DEHARO, DUQUE. Q Inner row: I-IOLGUIN, A. BENAVIDES, A.
