Knights of Columbus Council 2.559 The St. Edward's Knights of Columbus Council 2559 is one of the few student councils in the world. This council was granted its charter on December 14, 1924 and since that time it has been one of the most active councils in the state. In student activities it is also one of the liveliest organizations on the campus. The council meets twice monthly at which time the business of the council is discussed and after which instructive and entertaining programs are held. This organization is known on the campus for the entertainment it offers its members at the meetings as well as the educational benefits received from it. The lirst initiation was held in Austin, December 15, and the second in San Antonio on April 27. In both cases the first and second de- grees of the order were bestowed by the St. Edward's Degree Team. On May 2, the council gave a dance honoring the newly initiated mem- bers. ' The St. Edwards council is ex- tremely fortunate in that St. Ed- ward's is the home of the Texas Knights of Columbus Historical Com- mission. In-ner row: BRAMMERQ CIAIAUVINQ DICKMANNQ J. Dousnvg C. Czech Club A new and very active organization took form early in the school year with the founding of the Czech Club, composed of those students who are of a Bohe- mian or Polish nationality. It has for its purpose to create a more lively and cnthuastic interest in the Czech language, and to promote the interests of the University in the various Bohemian localities of Texas. It is hoped by the members, that this club may gain Statewide publicity in order that more Czech students will come to St. Edward's. With no precedent as a guide for their proceedings the club snapped into action in the very opening weeks of i school. Officers for the club were elected, and a Constitution was adopted. Dues were assessed, and with them, social gatherings were held. With the intention of having a Bohemian class started at the Uni- versity, the Czechs worked with earnest zeal with this point in view. Receiving donations from different societies and good-hearted people for this purpose, these dreams were ac- complished when a class was started at the beginning of the ,second semester with the Rev. Paul Kasper of Plum, as professor. It is the hope of the club that this class will con- tinue in the University, and that next year a Bohemian professor will be ac- quired for this purpose. These classes are being held twice a week, and are attended fully by the members. Tap: JOHN BARTA, PR15s1DENT. W Outer raw: BIELKOWSKIQ GAIDAQ KMIEC. 1 Inner row: FALTISEKQ Hvzsoosg KOPECKY. Page 66
