Neo-Selholastiic Society The Neo-Scholastic Society, the philosophical society, was founded several years ago by Father Schumacher. The society is devoted entirely to the dis- cussion of philosophical questions at its regular meetings, which supplement the work done in the various philosophical classes. Meetings are held regularly twice a month and at these, papers written by members on some interesting or important philosophical topic are read. Lively discussions follow which some- times devlop into heated arguments. Excellent practice in clashing with the opinion or viewpoint of others is thus afforded the student, because recourse ag5.,,i,,i . mga- mimi. 4 an , v H N 1 .' .ggi . r ,,, . ff 'ffQs:.-' ' W NU I s,1i.5JiQ'.i: Wwil mn i E 'Ai fir ' 'W rx-..!L,+?,li:1 i f ,Q V, Q i . St. Thomas Aquinas day was cele- brated by all the philosophers in the traditional manner. Father Hagerty ofhciated at a special Mass and Father O'Brien delivered a short address on St. Thomas, the patron of Catholic philosophers. A meeting was held at 10 o'clock at which several papers were read and discussed, and at which Archbishop Hurth gave an interesting talk. A banquet for the members followed this at one o'clock. East Texas Club QCONCLUDEDD Up to this time the East Texas club has led the field of athletics, having the highest average in baseball intramurals. The club got under way late for the forming of a basketball team but their prospects for a strong team next year are great. The late organization of the club has also prevented it from giving a dance, they could not obtain a favorable date therefore their social activities in this line were lacking. The club thus far has shown steady progress. Although they have not reached the highest achievements, their promises for a very outstanding and strong club next year are good. In the last two years there have L been a large number of clubs formed, each having its own distinct purpose and aim, many of them have moved considerably forward but probably the most steadily increasing prosper- ity is shown in the East Texas club. Their primary and also their second- ary purpose has been reached. The Easterners are in no way through progressing, however. They are go- ing right on to the highest peaks of achievements in all phases of life about the campus. One who watches will find that in a very short time the newly formed East Texas club has soared to the recognition of all, and proudly so. Inner row: KELLY, MCELROY, R. NeofScIh1olIastic Society QCONCLUDEDD A splendid expression of the character of the work done by the members of the Neo-Scholastic Society in the past year was given in the Philosophers' number of the Echo published in April, and which contained some of the out- standing essays of the year. The importance of the work of the society may be readily seen since in this day and time there are many false philosophical doctrines being taught young students in many of the large universities and there is a crying need for men to represent and uphold the truth so that not only the truth but also religion will not suffer.
