Dramatic Club The Dramatic Club under the able direction of Rev. joseph Maguire, C. S. C. experienced one of its most successful years. On four occasions the club gave outstanding performances never before so well enacted on the campus. Dramatics this year have reached an importance in extra-curricular work never before achieved. On November 18 four one-act plays were given in the Uni- versity auditorium. Turner and Coover were outstanding in At The Rising of The Moon. VVarner and Raffaelli shone in a drama of old Ireland, The Road to Connaughf' The Little Girl and Post Morterns were the other two plays presented at the time. A Christams play The Three Kings was presented on December 17. Coover, Ford, and Ochoa as the kings and Raffaelli as St. joseph were outstanding. The R iv al s, by Sheridan, was presented on March 3. Ochoa was the star with Turner and Raffaelli taking the other lead- ing parts. The Lenten play, Mary Magdalaf' written by Fr. Maguire, was enacted on April 7. Ochoa as Judas again excelled. Feminine characters in the differ- ent plays were acted by young ladies from town whose work was always appreciated. Mrs. Martyn Elliott, and Miss Pelham Elliott of Austin kindly lent their assistance to the players in costume and make-up. Top: BLANCHETTE, Coovmz. Student Activities Council Given greater power by virtue of the organization of the Department of Student Vlfelfare, the Student Activities Council this year devoted its efforts to the regulation of student affairs and to the promotion of student activities. To this organization must go in large measure credit for the success of the year 1929-30 at St. Edwards Among the many activities of the student council this year were: the pro- motion of a student trip to Houston for the St. Edwarcl's-Rice football game, inauguration of a bus service to Austin, sponsoring of Campus Collegians, a modern minstrel, selection of the principal contestants for the Tower beauty g election, securing of more favorable l hours for, and regulation of all dances, Q approving of all new organizations, 5 securing various improvements about L the campus, and presenting the clari- fied views and wishes of the student f body before the University authori- T ties. The S. A. C. owes its success this l year, as in previous years, to the co- operation it received from both the i student body and the faculty. Its support comes as a result of the con- ! stitution which provides that each l class president shall be a member of the council. Then, to further insure sane action, the upperclasses are given the greater representation, the seniors l l ' having four representatives, the jun- iors three, the sophomores two, and 1 the freshmen one. All students L were given the privilege of appearing , before the council meetings to pre- T sent their views and to ask the 5 council's approval and support of v , various unzlertalcings. l ' Outer row: DICKMANN, PRESIDENTQ LORANQ Orr: SULAK, Ssc'vg TREFFLICH. - Inner raw: BOURKE, FANETTE, FIGARI, f BEACH, SPRINGER. East Texas Club A new and outstanding organization increased the activities about the campus by its formation in February. The first meeting was held on the 17th of Febru- ary. Here officers for the East Texas club were elected from among the number of about thirty members present. Those elected were Dave F igari, presidentg Richard O'Rourke, Vice-Presidentg and Randolph Papich, Sec'y-Treas. The boundaries for the club were decided upon as the Sabine river on the east and the Brazos river on the west, taking in the cities of Beaumont, Port Arthur, Houston, and Galveston. The purpose of forming the club was primarily to form a closer bond of friendship and union among the l students of the university who re- l side in the eastern section of the state. Secondly to compete with l the other organizations and clubs on the campus in intramural sports and other functions. Wlieli the charter and constitution were drawn up and presented they were unanimously approved by the members of the club and sanctioned by the Student Activities Council. ' The club has since its beginning, very well achieved its aim of organ- ization, greatly so in the promotion of friendship among the members and more so in the strong competition which it has contributed to op- position in sports and scholastic activities. l l Top: FIGARI. l Outer row: BLANCHETTE, CHAUVIN, DEMACK, C.
